About Verdant Hearth
Verdant Hearth is an independent publication for people who grow plants indoors — from a single pothos on a desk to a full hydroponic kitchen garden. We launched in 2021 because the indoor-gardening internet was drowning in copy-pasted advice, undisclosed affiliate fluff, and AI-spun listicles. We wanted a resource we could send our friends to with confidence.
What makes us different
Every article is written or reviewed by Dr. Elena Hartwood, our editor-in-chief and a credentialed horticulturist. We measure, photograph, and test the products we cover. When we don't know something, we say so, and we link to the primary research instead of making it up.
Our editorial principles
- Helpful over hype. We refuse to recommend gear that doesn't earn its place.
- Show our work. Claims about plant biology, lighting, or pesticides cite primary sources.
- Disclose everything. Affiliate relationships and editorial corrections are always disclosed.
- Update, don't republish. Old guides are reviewed and rewritten as the science improves.
How we make money
Verdant Hearth is supported by display advertising and a small number of affiliate links to products we have personally used and recommend. Advertisers and affiliate networks have no input on our editorial content, ratings, or rankings. We never accept payment for positive coverage.
